When you ask a normal man on the street, “Do you use a skincare toner?”, almost 99% of the answers would be ‘No’. We detailed the importance of using a facial toner in a previous post here. Here’s our product review of the KIEHL’S Facial Fuel Energizing Tonic for Men.

Facial_Fuel_Energizing_Tonic_Men_Kiehls-skincare-tonerWe hate to start off a product review very negative but the first noticeable thing we detected about this Kiehl’s facial toner was the smell. The majority of our male staff Disliked (with a Capital ‘D’!) the scent, an interesting combination of a rotten citrus smell with a hint of rubber. Not sure if Kiehl’s did enough scent surveys for this product but after a couple times using it, some of our staff had to just stop using it because it just smelled horrible and too synthetic. Even half the reviews on the Kiehls.com website mention how annoying the scent is.

Now for the performance, the energizing tonic did not feel “invigorating” at all. It felt bland upon application. One of our favorite facial toners for men and women is the TwinLuxe Instant Energy Mist. This one alivens and refreshes our face pleasantly. Maybe the Kiehl’s product lacked the alcohol content which provides the desirable cooling sensation of a toner. It also felt a little greasy initially but soaked into our skin half a minute later. Our faces did feel ‘smoothed out’ which was desired.

The key ingredients used are caffeine (anti-inflammatory properties to improve the skin’s appearance), vitamins C and E, and bamboo extract (a rich source of silica, an essential nutrient that keeps skin healthy by soothing and improving skin’s radiance).

Overall, the Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Tonic For Men is priced cheaply at $18 for 8.4 fl oz / 250 ml but we would not recommend purchasing it. It doesn’t invigorate our skin like other facial toners but it does a decent job at prepping skin before a moisturizer or a sunscreen application.
